We are approximately 4 weeks away from the US Mid terms, and as is the case since 2001, terrorism and the response to it will be playing top of the political pops.

So the route of terrorism Bush claims is an ideology labeled "islamofacism"

Is this a fact or a fiction, are these people theocratic facists or are they the freedom fighters they claim to be? Are they simply secular terrorists using religion as a cover, or are they simply angry at US and Western occupation of the middle east?

So ...............

In my opinion it's a FACT that they use their religion as cover to approve of their terrorist acts. I think it is also a FACT that they want revenge on the US and/or EU for what they have done in the Gulf-wars.

I rest my case.

It's a tough question. Nothing justifies fascism, be it bombing or occupation – murder or persecution. As much of fascism I claim that the western (and USA:s) occupation of middle east, the Palestine-issue and Iraq is, so is fundamental religious groups. It doesn't matter if it's adherents of Christianity that is out to condemn homosexuals or true supporters of Islam that use terror as a way to express their hate, they are both dangerous in their own way. Even though we must never forget what our governments do towards these people, what they have gone through and what they will go through, fascism is never justified.

Still, I don't like the cry of "Islamofascism". It condemns Islam itself, and not fundamental groups such as Al-Qaida. It is an oppression of the religion itself.

So, to the point. Yeah, they are freedom fighters. And yeah, they use religion as their justification of terror deeds. Don't get me wrong now, but to be honest I'd rather ask why they do it instead of what to call it. Is it so, that it's actually our fault? Think opression, think occupation and think unjustice.

Yes revenge, revenge is not a facist belief. Facism creates enemies to combat, which is the entire point of Bush's islamofacism, this idea that a Pan Islamic nation can exist from western Europe to South East Asia if the US/EU alliance can be defeated. That is what they describe as islamofacism.

However if one traces the roots of the current terrorist threat you will find that little islamic threat was posed to the west until the 1990 collapse of the Soviet Union. After that, the west (in particular the US) stationed thousands of troops in the region, something which was previously impossible due to the geopolitical struggle.

The comments released by Al Qaeda at the time was that they were fighting against the occupation of the Middle East by America and the West. This is pre 9/11 rhetoric. Osama Bin Laden himself predicted in the late 90s that the US/West would launch an attack on the Islamic world, to instal a puppet government completely pliant to its whims and to station indefinitely troops in the region.

By proving his prophecy true we have caused an influx of recruits thus deepening the threat of terrorism instead of lightening it. Our continued support of the corrupt ARAB and not Israeli regimes is meant as a recruiting tool to act as a foundation for this new wave. Islamofacism, is not an ideology it is a convenient political myth, in my opinion, used to continue the policies which have caused the problem in the first place.
